This is the first, landmark issue of Aviation Photographer, a publication aimed at harnessing the passion for aviation photography from all over the world, from each genre, and telling the narrative behind the shoots that we see online and in print, with the photographers’ stories shared as they take us through their thought process and their results.

You’ll be taken behind the scenes of an extraordinary commission to shoot an entire air force air-to-air ahead of its 100th anniversary in our cover story. You’ll learn what it was like to shoot aviation in Iran, how a shoot with F-35 Lightning IIs on the hallowed dust of Edwards AFB was conducted, what goes into making an assignment work, and hear from pros who are literally the best in the world at what they do.

On the practical side, you can read how to get your work published as well as the best way to shoot air shows and, crucially, whether we need to all be taking mirrorless technology a little more seriously.

You will all have your idea of what makes your aviation photography tick, and my hope is that, regardless of whether you’re wide-eyed and breaking through or been-there, done-that, this special publication will inspire you to push your photography to new heights.
